Abstract

ES is an interface design platform dedicated to those who want to design inclusive services also from the point of view of gender identity. It was born from the idea of change and evolution of the concept of gender identity. Given the large amount of problems encountered online by non-binary people (who do not identify themselves totally with the female gender, nor totally with the male gender), due to the fact that most of the services, platforms or apps require to return in a binary gender vision in order to carry on the experience, ES acts as a direct bridge between those who encounter this type of problem and those who, on the other hand, can solve them in a practical and immediate way. Designers are the primary means by which this change is possible. ES provides the appropriate knowledge and guidelines to follow in order to create services and platforms open to all on an equal basis; It supports the user in the most critical phases of the design, providing information sections and tools. One of these tools, for example, is designed as a "check" phase (Les Talk); the designer can check whether the language used falls within the guidelines after learning it from the information sections.

Interface and Interaction modality/ User Experience

ES is designed to be an intuitive and, at the same time, instructive platform. From the homepage it is possible to see which are the main features to which the service is dedicated. The ‘design’ section is dedicated to subjects such as: visual, communication and interaction part with respective subcategories; The ‘resources’ section offers material for ideas and examples of use in order to achieve the same objectives: inclusion and empathy. Each section can be reached through simple clicks thanks to the side menus that follow the user during the exploration, ensuring that they never lose sight of their position on the platform. Thanks to the filters and the search bar, each element can also be easily reached via keywords. This will improve the experience of the end user who will feel welcome, will have the feeling of being part of the whole and not having to adapt once again to a concept to which he does not feel he belongs, thus achieving the goal of inclusion that was aimed at from the beginning.

Further developments

As further developments, the platform could be implemented and integrated into existing design tools, making most online platforms and services leverage the evolution of language and conception of any nuance of gender identity.
