IBM 360 explores data transparency by revealing the hidden narratives behind generative AI. Based on a reinterpretation of the 1975 IBM 5100, this portable data processor becomes an image-generating AI device capable of swapping datasets via physical tape. A transparency mode offers users insight into the underlying data, emphasizing the importance of traceability and context in machine-generated outputs. The project challenges perceptions of AI as a black box, promoting awareness of data’s critical influence in creative algorithms.
